12-9Lesson 1 Introduction to Printer Administration

Lesson Summary

Printer management involves assigning forms to paper trays, setting separator

pages, redirecting documents, and taking ownership of printers.

Document management involves pausing and resuming documents, configuring

notifications, and deleting documents from the print queue.

Troubleshooting printers involves identifying and resolving printer problems such

as offline printers, printers that are out of paper or ink, printers that are incorrectly

configured, and situations in which users are not using a printer properly.

You can gain access to printers for administration by using the Printers And Faxes

window accessed through Control Panel.

Windows XP Professional allows you to control printer usage and administration

by assigning permissions.

Managing printers includes assigning forms to paper trays and setting a separator page.

In addition, you can pause a printer so that it does not try to print documents while

printers to your network, you might need to redirect documents to a different printer.

You might also need to change which users have administrative responsibility for print-

After this lesson, you will be able to■

Assign forms to paper trays.

Set a separator page.

Pause and resume a printer, and cancel all documents on a printer.

Redirect documents to a different printer.

Select a different print processor.

Adjust print spooling settings.

Take ownership of a printer.

Estimated lesson time: 40 minutes
