As farmers innovate to take advantage of market opportunities, there is a pattern of movement
away from crops that ensured food security (paddy) to crops that generate good monetary income
(vegetables) (Task Force, 2006). This can be clearly seen in the study by comparing the villages
closest to and farthest from the market. (Table 1.4 and Table 1.5). For instance, farmers in
