1.1.2.2 Non-finite clauses
A non-finite clause is defined as a clause whose verb phrase lack of
marking for tense or modality(non-finite verb phrase)
There are three classes of non-finite phrases which serve to distinguish
three classes of non-finite clauses: infinitive clauses, ing- clauses and
ed-clauses.
Non-finite clauses are usually constructed without or with a subject.
-Ing- participle clauses
With subject:
Arriving at the station, he phoned his family.
Without subject:
The matter having been solved, we felt happy.
To-infinitive clauses
With subject:
The best thing would be to tell everybody.
Without subject :
The best thing would be for you to tell everybody.
Ed- clauses
Covered with confusion, she quickly left the room.
Without subject:
The job finished, we went home straight away.
