2.3.1 Subjects of the study
Participants were 42 students majoring in Cookery in two intact classes at VTVC. They
took ten-period ESP English course per week for their fourth semester so as to enhance
their listening and speaking abilities of English in Hospitality. All the participants have
learned English for at least three years. After having been successful in the entrance exam
they are assigned into different classes randomly. At the time the research was conducted,
all the participants were at the pre-intermediate level of English.
