Objective 2.2

Manage and Troubleshoot Access to Shared Folders

B. Correct:

Share permissions override file permissions when the user accesses files

across the network. Windows XP Professional restricts EricG’s access to read-only

because that user has only Read share permissions. If EricG were to log on locally

to the system, he could modify files because Change permissions are assigned at

an NTFS level. In other words, when users access files using a network share, only

the most restrictive permissions are granted.

C. Incorrect:

Although EricG has Change permissions at the NTFS level, the Read

share permissions take precedence because Windows XP Professional uses the

most restrictive permissions when comparing access at both the share level and

file level.

D. Incorrect:

The user EricG has Full Control permissions to the files in the shared

folder only if the user were explicitly granted Full Control in both the file permis-

sions and the share permissions.
