You must prepare for installing Windows XP Professional by verifying that the targetcomputer’s hardware and software are compatible with Windows XP Professional.Although it is not mandatory, all hardware should appear in the Windows Catalog(previously known as the Hardware Compatibility List). You can view the current ver-sion of the Windows Catalog at https://traloihay.net if you have verified that all the hardware in the target computer is compatiblewith Windows XP Professional, there is a good chance that the CD-ROM does not con-tain drivers for hardware released after Windows XP was first released. If you haveInternet access and are launching Setup from an existing version of Windows, the Win-dows XP Professional setup routine can attempt to download the latest installationfiles, including updated drivers, by using Dynamic Update.If the computer has an existing operating system, you must know how to configureWindows XP for dual booting, how to upgrade the operating system, and how to per-form a clean installation. Understand that Setup is launched from one of two programs:Winnt.exe when running a 16-bit operating system such as DOS 6.22 or Windows 3.x,or Winnt32.exe when running a 32-bit operating system such as Windows 2000 Profes-sional or Windows Me. If the computer is to be part of a domain, you must know howto add the computer as a domain member and which domain privileges are required.To successfully answer questions in this objective, you must be adept at manuallyinstalling Windows XP Professional on a range of computer systems, in both work-group and domain environments.
