Cross-sectional- within a short period of time test several groups, each at a different age,

of home schooled children on a measure of social development. The pro is less time

involved and the con is cohort effect.

Longitudinal- begin with a group of 5-6 year olds who are to be home schooled and

retest this group periodically, over a 10-12 year period. The pro is avoiding the cohort

effect, the con is cost and length of the study.

Sequential- test several groups of different age children at one time, then retest each

group on a measure of social development over a period of time. This method combines

the pros of the other two and avoids some of the cons.
