Jackie Chan was bom in Hong Kong in 1954. His parents were very poor, and at first, they couldn’t even
afford to pay the hospital bills. But they decided to borrow some money so they could keep the baby.
When he was seven, young Jackie was sent to a very strict boarding school, the Chinese Opera Research
Institute and they trained performers in singing, acrobatics, martial arts and mime. When he left the
school at the age of 17, he became a movie stuntman, and he appeared with Bruce Lee in several kung-fu
movies. But Jackie Chan's big breakthrough came in 1978, when he made Snake in Eagle’s Shadow. See,
what he did was, he combined comedy and dangerous stunts, and it was very appealing. The film was a
big hit in Hong Kong. Jackie’s fame has since spread all over the world, making him one of the world’s
most popular stars.
