SOCCER COUCH ALFRED RIEDL LEAVES VIETNAM

Austrian couch Alfred Riedl has decided to leave Vietnam's men soccer team despite a request to stay by

the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

His contract with the VFF will expire on January 31, 2004, according to Vietnam News Agency on Monday.

Despite being offered a new two-year contract by the VFF, Riedl has decided not to continue coaching the

national Olympic soccer team because he earlier pledged to couch Palestine's team.

Coaching Vietnam's soccer team since July, 2003, Riedl helped it win the silver medal at the 22nd

Southeast Asian Games.

The couch said he would keep in touch with the VFF and hoped to return to Vietnam in the near future.
