3. Stop the SMTP service and
a. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and
then click Services.

b. Right-click Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), and then click
Stop.
c. Minimize the Services window and wait for your server to detect that
SMTP is not running.
d. Read the notification in the Messenger Service dialog box and then
click OK.
