INSTALLING AN LPR PORT

7. Click OK to close the printer’s Properties dialog box.

If another printer is available for the current print server, you can redirect the docu-

ments to that printer. To redirect documents to another local or network printer that

uses the same printer driver, select the appropriate port on the print server and cancel

the selection of the current port.

Exam Tip Remember that you can redirect all documents for a printer, but not individual

documents. Also, the new printer must use the same printer driver as the current printer.

Formats Supported by the WinPrint Print Processor

The print processor is software that is responsible for processing print documents into

a format that is suitable to be sent to the printer, and Windows XP contains only the Win-

Print processor by default. The default print processor and data types are suitable for the

vast majority of printing, and you should not change them unless you have an applica-

tion that specifies the need for a different print processor or additional data type.

The WinPrint print processor supports the following formats:

RAW RAW is a common data type for clients other than Windows. When using the

RAW format, the spooler does not modify the print data; data is sent directly to the

printer for processing. There are two additional versions of RAW:

RAW [FF appended] is the same as the RAW format, except that a form feed

character is appended to the end of each print job, which is necessary for cer-

tain types of printers.

RAW [FF auto] works like RAW [FF appended], except that the processor

checks to see if there is a form feed character at the end of a document and

if there is not one already, the processor adds one.
