Vietnam’s New year is celebrated according to the Lunar calender. It is

officially known as a Tet nguyen Dan, or a Tet. It begins between January

twenty- first and February nineteenth. The exact date change from year to year.

Vietnamese people usually make preparation for the holidays several weeks

before. They tidy their house, cook special food, clean and make offering on

the family altars. On the New year’s Eve people stay up to midnight to see the

year coming. Then, they put on new the clothes and give one another the

greetings of the season. Tet lasts about ten days but the first three days are

most important.
