Run-on Sentences

Writing sentence fragments is a serious error. Writing run-on sentences is an equally

serious error.

Question:

What is a run-on sentence?

Answer:

A run-on sentence is two or more sentences written as if they were

one sentence.

Sometimes sentences run on with no punctuation separating them, as in the first exam-

ple following. Sometimes, as in the second example, a comma is present, but a comma is

not strong enough to separate two complete sentences.
